Brand new hotel on Rose Street has its windows cleaned

As someone living in Edinburgh or visiting it, a great place to go is the bustling Rose Street which runs parallel to two of Edinburgh’s main streets Princes Street and George Street. Filled with bars and restaurants as well as unique and specialist shops, there’s lots to see and do. However, it’s not always been like that.

A century ago, Rose Street was used as a service entrance to the grand homes on Princes Street and George Street. It was named after the emblem of England – the Rose and a smaller nearby street was named Thistle Street after the emblem of Scotland. The intention was to highlight the union between the two countries.
